An excellent touch here is so much of the activities and dialogue of the people in a small mountain town that the author gets right. I'm not sure how old the author is but the sexual banter between the two of them has all the wit and verve of a Three's Company episode. The verbal sparring and repartee engaged in by Maddie and Syd as well as between David and Maddie is both witty and funny. This in spite of the fact that it took the two of them longer to make a move on each other than it has any couple thus far in the 21st century. The twenty one hours went by much quicker than I thought they would because this is an excellent audiobook. There is some of that in this one but I'm glad I gave this selection a chance. It is usually difficult to sustain interest in a book that long because there is often a lot of filler material in a book that long. That was my original reason for risking a credit on 21 hour book. Named #69 on Autostraddle’s “100 Best Lesbian Fiction & Memoir Books of All Time”.The setting for this book is the area where I was born and not far from where I now live.Short listed for the Golden Crown Literary Society 2012 Ann Bannon Award.Awarded 2012 Rainbow Award for Best Lesbian Debut Novel.Awarded 2012 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention for Best Lesbian Contemporary Fiction.
